The school society Deutscher Schulverein was up to 1918 alongside other German fight organisations active on the Slovene territory particularly in the Styria region, in Carniola and to a lesser extent also in Carinthia and the Littoral. It built kindergartens, primary schools, established subsidiaries, all under the pretence of maintaining the mother tongue of the German population at the borderline, but actually to Germanise the majority of the Slovene population in these parts as well as those further in the Slovene ethnic territory. The monthly Slovene Branik (SB) issued in Ljubljana in the years 1908-1914 closely observed the activities of the Deutscher Schulverein. The present contribution presents a collection of reports made by the Slovene Branik on the activities of the Schulverein in Cannthia and the Littoral, with Branik's comments on them.
