The article summarizes information about children in the towns of northwestern Istria contained in the regulations of the codes/statutes of Trieste, Koper, Izola and Piran from the 14th and 15th centuries. Based on these, the article defines a child's position within the family; inheritance from deceased parents; the position of orphans; the coming of age and legal capacity; juvenile delinquents, the victims of criminal offences, and their criminal liability. It draws a comparison with the documented practice of the town of Piran, which largely complied with the legislation.
