This paper presents a discussion of the learning unit Nobility and Peasantry in the Middle Ages with elements of formative assessment, reading strategies (comparison table), and cooperative learning in pairs. On their own, in pairs, students looked up the information required for their segment of the learning content in the textbook, wrote it into the comparison table, and reported their findings to one another. They built on their knowledge of the lives of the nobility and peasantry in the Middle Ages by writing an abstract based on the information from the comparison table and by using additional sources and literature. They evaluated one another’s abstract using the criteria we had shaped beforehand.
