Opis

The concept of unveiling monuments to living people has been present in European culture for centuries. Until the 18th century, they were dedicated exclusively to monarchs, nobles and military leaders. Only then some were dedicated to artists, scientists and inventors, which was the highest expression of recognition for their work. In the 20th century, monuments to living individuals were associated mainly with authoritarian leaders, but the beginning of the 21st century has brought on the complete liberalization of the criteria for such monuments. Today, monuments are unveiled to many popular musicians, actors and athletes. Opinions are divided on whether dedicating such monuments is justified, yet the trend of unveiling them continues to be strong.
