The article presents some of the most important archaeological discoveries in recent years. It moves across the area of present-day Slovenia from west to east, presenting the diverse forms of settlement and of the exploitation of natural resources in Roman times. In addition to new findings based on recent discoveries, the article aims to demonstrate that Slovenian archaeology can and is able to conduct highly diverse and demanding research. Finally, it cites the preliminary literature from which the data were drawn, because most sites have not been published yet. A few older articles have also been added.
