In the 15th and 16th centuries, the importance of the provincial diets grew considerably. As a result of this, their administration apparatuses also became much larger. The number of clerks in the provincial and bookkeeping offices grew. Originally, the Diet scribe was responsible for the written material of each respective Diet. However, in order to be able to organise and manage their material better, the Diets appointed a registrar for this task. In 1586, the Diets established an archive in the Provincial House and appointed a registrar to keep their records, whom they provided with an apartment in the same house. In 1589, the Diet appointed an assistant (an adjunct) to the registrar. In the period of the Counter-Reformation in the early 17th century , the Commission of the Counter-Reformation took a part of the archives of the Diets out of the provincial house - mainly documents pertaining to religious matters. In the second half of the 18' century, the Diocese of Ljubljana returned these documents to to the Diets. The article presents a list of all Provincial Diets' registrars up to 1747, as well as the adjuncts and other clerks in the Records Office (German: Registratur), such as Akzesists and Protokollists. The author presents a description of the responsibilities of the clerks in the Records Office as defined by the Assembly of the Provincial Diets in their instructions and decisionsThe relations between the Records Office and the archives of the Diets, the provincial governor and the court for the nobility are also described.
