Description
The treatise deals with Austrian-Slovene relations from the spring of 1990 until January 1992. It is based on original, until today undiscovered and un-researched archival and other documentation; especially documents from Karel Smolle’s private archives and minute books of the Austrian Parliament from the beginnings of the 1990s. Karel Smolle has, already during his first tenure as deputy to the Austrian Parliament (1986– 1990), helped Slovene politicians to make connections with the Austrian politicians, especially after he was appointed to lead the »Office of the Representation of the Republic of Slovenia in Austria«. Official visits of members of the Slovene government with their Austrian counterparts improved the image of Slovenia, not only in Austria but also worldwide. The treatise describes in great detail the role of the “Office of the Representation of the Republic of Slovenia” during the war for Slovenia in June and July of 1991, and later during the struggle for the recognition of Slovenia as an independent state. The second part of the treatise deals with the role of Carinthian Slovenes and their organizations in the above described period.

- Prispevek obravnava avstrijsko-slovenske odnose v obdobju od pomladi 1990 do januarja 1992. Nastal je na podlagi izvirnih, še povsem neobdelanih arhivskih virov in druge, do zdaj še neobdelane dokumentacije. Gre zlasti za zasebni arhiv Karla Smolleja, takratnega vodje Predstavništva Republike Slovenije v Avstriji – Biroja Republike Slovenije na Dunaju, in zapisnike avstrijskega državnega zbora iz obravnavanega obdobja. Karel Smolle je še kot poslanec avstrijskega državnega zbora v obdobju 1986–1990 posredoval pri navezavi stikov med slovenskimi in avstrijskimi oblastmi. Omenjenemu delu se je posvečal zlasti po tem, ko je oblast v Republiki Sloveniji prevzela vlada Lojzeta Peterleta, še zlasti pa po imenovanju za vodjo zgoraj omenjenega predstavništva s strani Vlade RS. Pri tem so stiki na ministrski ravni utrjevali položaj Slovenije ne le v Avstriji, ampak tudi širše. Podrobno je obravnavana vloga Biroja v času vojne za Slovenijo in boja za njeno mednarodno priznanje vse do avstrijskega priznanja RS kot neodvisne države. V drugem delu prispevka je obravnavana vloga organizacij in posameznih koroških Slovencev v obravnavanem obdobju.
