The article describes the agricultural reform and simultaneous colonization in 18 settlements of Lendava region between the two wars. Special attention is dedicated to changes of land ownership structure and national structure of the area, as the distribution of agrarian land and settling brought about greatest changes in these two fields. Although during the agrarian reform nearly all agrarian land of the Estherhazy family was distributed, the greatest problem of the Lendava region remained unsolved, i.e. the fate of a large number of small landowners, who suffered poverty. By giving the agrarian land mostly to Slovene colonists from coastal region and Istria, as well as to Slovenes from Prekmurje and Croats from Medjimurje, problems and disputes were only intensified. On the one hand, the agrarian reform completely excluded the local Hungarians from the distribution of agrarian lands, which endangered the survival of a large number of small Hungarian landowners, on the other hand economic growth in the newly developed colonies was slow, and the majority of colonists were uncapable of surviving without the state aid. Apart from the changes of land ownership structure and national structure, the author used archival sources to illustrate the realization of agrarian reform and colonization in the area of Dolnja Lendava, which despite numerous similarities in some aspects differ from the general practice in the state.
