ngarian enemies, who occupied the country, the young generation was exposed to the same
oppression as the older one. So they came to know the raids, the arsons, death, the denationalization
and the mass deportations into the concentration camps.
Because of the mass rebellion against the Italian occupiers in the years 1941—1943, the Italians
started a vast offensive, which ended as late as November 1942. They proceeded very severely against
the civilian population, who supported the National Liberation Movement. Written documents and
drawings of the children from the area of Bosljiva Loka, Osilnica, Trava, Draga and Loški Potok,
give evidence and bear witness about what the children experienced and how they managed to
survive the days in the Italian concentration camps of Rab, Gonars, Monigo, Renicci, Padua, Visco.
Those written documents and drawings were created in the year 1944 in partisan schools in Ribnica
and Kočevje area. The competition was published at the occasion of the third anniversary of the
Liberation Front. The themes were "The children talk to us" and "Our child in the internment". The
children, from the first to the last grade of the elementary school, took part in the competition. The
testimonies are written in a simple language, without any embellishment, in the way the events
impressed on the children's memory, namely in a very descriptive, deeply moving way. They are
reflecting the direct comprehension of the children and their deposition of the events in the manner
that only children have been able to express.
The list of the children's written documents, deposited in AS 1769, Collection Occupier's prisons
and camp, in the box number 1, has been supplemented to the contribution; the review of the funds
and collections of the Department of dislocated archival material II of the Archives of the Republic of Slovenia, where the documents, dealing with the issues of children, victims of the Second World War,
has also been supplemented.
