Under the supervision ofprofessor D. Sc. Gregor Čremošnik, Peter Ribnikar and I have together
done the research paper "The alimentation of Dubrovnik (cereals, meat, wine, cheese) from 1324—
1360" on the basis of the written records of the minutes of the sessions of the Great and Small
Council of Dubrovnik. Here in I am publishing the fragments from our research paper, which I have
synthetized. I included the following chapters: the procedures for purchasing the cereals, the methods
used for the acquirement of the funds for the purchase of the cereals, the distribution of the cereals
among the population. Besides this rounded up segment, I have done a particular research study
concerning the case of a stranger in Dubrovnik, Bencio del Buona from Florence, who became
engaged in the purveyance of the cereals for Dubrovnik in the first half of the 14th century. Owing to
the good organization of the food supply, above all the supply of the cereals, the population of
Dubrovnik very rarely experienced the catastrophic hunger.
