Description
The article brings a survey of all the known signets of the convents of the nuns of the order of St. Clare, which had been operating in Carniola: Mekinje near Kamnik, Škofja Loka and Ljubljana. The convents of the nuns of the order of St. Clare had namely, as well as other legal subjects in the past, used different signets for sealing of the documents in legal and business life, which guaranteed greater authenticity and legal validity of the written texts. The convents of Mekinje and Škofja Loka have the oldest preserved signets from the 14th century, thus from the earliest period of their existence. In the 60's of the 17th century, thus already soon after its establishment, the convent of Ljubljana had its signet as well. Up till now only three signets of Mekinje convent and two of Škofja Loka convent have been dealt with in the professional literature — all three from the Middle Ages; a survey of the signets of the New Age period until the dissolution of the order of the Clares in the year 1782 as well as the comparison of the latter are missing. In this survey in the first place the individual preserved signets from the convents that were dealt with are introduced, and in the end a fewfindings following the comparison ofall the signets.
