Anton Aškerc was the first Slovene professional archivist and performed his duties as a town archivist in Ljubljana from
July 1898 till his death in 1912. His efforts in the field of archival science marked the beginning of a regular and systematic
archival work and continual care for archival material at the Ljubljana Town Mall. His work at the Ljubljana Town
Archive included tasks performed by modem archivists, such as arranging describing, acquiring and keeping of archival
material, publishing records of importance for the Slovene history, and dealing with some of the methodological issues in
archival science.
