The article presents some empiric data acquired during the research project which point out the perception of the chosen sample of inhabitants regarding the role of language – so minority as majority – in the society. It shows how the population estimates the presence of a minority language (Italian or Hungarian) in the environment where the minority language is equal to the majority language. Standpoints of respondents towards bilingualism are also presented, and specially emphasized is their attitude towards the statement that “in my settlement, bilingualism is a necessity”.
