Časopis za zgodovino in narodopisje

The study describes the circumstances of the emergence and work of the war post office station in Maribor. It includes the period from the first decades of the 16th century to the end of that century. It presents the postal employees (biographical data), the duration of work, and possible locations of the post office station of that time (which was usually located in the postman's house). The provincial administration financially supported the Maribor war post office station ever since its foundation, which is why the postmen of different ranks had the word "provincial" ("deželni") in their titles. Already towards the end of the century the duke of the province started to contribute money for tho transfer of his official correspondence. Different sources enable a complete insight into the goings-on associated with the war post office station. The author has defined four different strands of postal work and illustrates them with concrete examples.
