Fast industrial development in the valley of the river Meža resulted in numerous alterations in the life-style of the 19th century population. It spawned the growth of urban settlements in which both rural as well as working men lived side by side throughout the century. Employers and their family members were provided for by the companies they were working for, the care which the management believed would be beneficial to the company included education, medical treatment, free fuel and at first even basic provisions. The inhabitans of industrial areas were organized in varios societies and trade unions. They stuck to traditional customs and conventions. This profile deals only with the period of capitalism.
