Description
The article examines the issue of the acceptability of female sport in connection with the novel scientifi c methods and argumentations provided by Božo Škerlj, the pioneer of Slovene anthropology, at the beginning of the 1930s. By employing the method of anthropomorphic measurement, Škerlj provided scientifi c grounds that further strengthened the “traditional belief” that female sport should be restrained due to the developmental, anatomical, and physiological peculiarities of the female organism.

      • Avtor se v članku ukvarja z mejami sprejemljivosti ženskega športa, katerih se je v začetku tridesetih let 20. stoletja z novim znanstvenim argumentiranjem polotil pionir slovenske antropologije Božo Škerlj. Z metodo antropometričnih merjenj je Škerlj tudi znanstveno potrdil »tradicionalne predstave«, da je treba ženski šport brzdati na vajetih razvojnih, anatomskih in fi zioloških posebnosti ženskega organizma. Kot evgenik je Škerlj prekomerno ukvarjanje žensk s športom označil celo kot demografski problem.
