Among old tombstones In Laško, that of the nobleman Joannes Bapt. Valvasor,
with decidedly protestant content still belongs to the mannerist style.
It was made about 1582. — The tombstone of Polydor de Montagnana, the
parish priest of Laško and from 1582 onward the provost In Novo mesto
(he died 1604 in Novo mesto), belongs to the late Renaissance type of
a portrait epitaph. It was executed during the lifetime of Montagnana between
1576—79 and is the product of the same master who carved a much
nobler Renaissance calligraphic tombstone of the Stich family. The latter
was carved (1645) In the same Baroque spirit as the tombstone of Margarethe
Stadler, by a stonecarver who had his workshop probably In the neighboring
town Celje. — The first tombstone Is buit in the outside wall of the
vicarage, the second Is situated In the northern aisle while the last two
are placed In the facade of the parish church In Laško.
