Description

The article centres on Baroness Maria Theresa Oršić, née Baroness Wintershoffen (1671–1710), from the Styrian town of Kozje (Ger. Drachenburg). It is divided into three thematic clusters. In the first part, it presents the origin of the baroness’s primary family of Wintershoffen, which came from Bavaria to Styria in the sixteenth century and had become extinct by the early nineteenth century. The second part describes the baroness’s marriage to the Slavonian nobleman Baron Anton Oršić, which culminated in a divorce. The third part discusses her settling down in Ljubljana and her estate listed in her probate inventory. Special consideration is given to her library, which was remarkably extensive and diverse for that period.
