The article presents the content and context of a letter that the Mexicano Rajmund Urbančič sent home to his brother from Puebla, Mexico in 1865. In the letter, which is preserved in the Historical Archives Ljubljana, Unit for Dolenjska and Bela Krajina Novo mesto, Rajmund Urbančič describes his two-month journey from Trieste, through Gibraltar and the Caribbean, to the Mexican mainland city of Puebla. The broader background of the letter is presented on the basis of sources from Slovenian archives and the Austrian State Archives.
