Olga Janša was born on July 5,1938 in Dolenji Logatec in Notranjsko. She received her BA in history from the Ljubljana university in 1962. After having taught for some time at several primary schools and at a high school, she worked as head of the Department of History Library at the Ljubljana Faculty of Arts between 1968 and 1980. Later she taught history atthe Ljubljana Pedagogic Academy (Faculty), and was a guest lecturer at the Pedagogic Faculty in Maribor. After receiving her Ph.D. in 1989, she worked first as an assistant professor, later as an associate professor. Because of the great diversity of her scientific work, let us mention only several items from her bibliography. Aside from a bibliographic index for the first 25 volumes of Historical Review (Zgodovinski časopis), she wrote grammar school textbooks for social sciences. Her principal work, however, is the monograph of the Historical Society of Carniola (Historično društvo za Kranjsko). She was a very active member and also a secretary of the Slovene Historical Association (Zgodovinsko društvo za Slovenijo). She also worked as editor-in-chief of Kronika (1972-1979), and has remained on its editorial board.
