The paper examines Slovene political and other cartoons from the period of
WWI, trying to illuminate the circumstances in which they had originated,
and the reasons for their creation. The authors of cartoons in the satirical
paper the Kurent (1918–1919), the Kurentov album (1918), the satirical
supplement of the Dan daily, the Bodeča neža (1914), the Svetovna vojska
magazine (1914–1915), or of cartoons on postcards were Hinko Smrekar,
Maksim Gaspari, and Fran Podrekar. These cartoons rank among the best
Slovene satirical drawings, and directly reflect the feelings of Slovenes living
in that period. Like other written sources, they represent a valuable document
of their time.
