In the middle of the 13th century the Turjak lords were still a rather insignificant family of noblemen from Kranj. Their cooperation with the provincial duke, however, proved very profitable. The family gradually managed to climb to the top of the emerging provincial noblemen of Carniola. The family’s reputation grew in direct proportion to their accumulated wealth which multiplied tenfold in a period of two hundred years. In the second half of the 15th century the Turjak lords thus became one of the wealthiest land-owners in Carniola.
