Since the mid-1970s, Slovene climbers have been among the best in the world. Their journey to the top began in 1975 with an exceptional achievement in the South Face of the eightthousander Makalu and in Mt Everest’s western ridge four years later. It took Slovenes two decades to ascend all 14 eight-thousanders, with Makalu being the first in 1975 and Annapurna the final one in 1995. The first Slovene initiatives to climb the Himalaya appeared soon after World War II and the first expedition was organized in 1960. The article presents the chronology of expeditions to the Himalaya, starting with the beginning of climbing the world’s highest mountains, as well as with an overview of the first Slovene ascents of eight-thousanders, including that of Annapurna in 1995. It features a list of all climbers of the most important expeditions, as well as a list of all Slovenes that have ascended an eight-thousander since 1975.
