Description
The author investigates assassinations and assassination attempts in Bulgaria, Romania, and Albania during WWI and WWII, and reactions upon them in Slovenec and Jutro newspapers. After the initial definition of assassination from the viewpoints of theory and history, the article discusses political situations in Bulgaria, Romania, and Albania, and the most conspicuous assassination attempts on the kings, presidents, and prime ministers of these states. These events had been duly reported in and discussed by both leading Slovene newspapers, the liberal Jutro and the catholically oriented Slovenec. The article examines preparations prior to assassinations; their course of action; fate of the assassins and conspirators; life stories of their victims; measures taken by the authorities; impact of these acts of violence upon the domestic situation and abroad; domestic and foreign responses to them; controversies between both newspapers; and other impacts of these actions.
