The article provides an overview of both organised and non-organised mountaineering in the Tržič area during the twentieth century, which played an important part in the historical process of Slovenian mountaineering. This is where the first documented mountain ascent took place in the territory of present-day Slovenia, more specifically in 1758, when Janez Anton Scopoli climbed the Storžič mountain. In 1908, Tržič founded its branch of the Slovenian Mountaineering Society. Based on printed, archival, and newspaper sources, the article outlines the beginnings and development of the Tržič mountaineering through time as well as territory marking through the construction of hiking trails and mountain huts during the German–Slovenian national struggle. The article also presents other events and activities that had a significant impact on mountaineering in the Tržič area.
