The article is divided into three parts. The first part brings forth a few basic pieces of information regarding the development of the network of Aquileian archdeaconates in Carniola, followed by a demonstration of the conditions in the archdeaconate of Upper Carniolan in the early eighteenth century. The third and central part of the article aims to shed light on the conditions in the parish of Tržič, as they were described in his visitation report of 1704 to the
Aquileian patriarch Dionisio Delfino (1699–1734) by the protonotary apostolic, parish priest of Mengeš and archdeacon Dr Johann Andreas von Flachenfeld (1677–1733) after the completed visitation of the Upper Carniolan archdeaconate. The valuable report, kept in the Archiepiscopal Archives in Udine, offers an interesting read about the conditions in Upper Carniolan parishes and monasteries at the beginning of the watershed eighteenth century.
