Description
At the beginning of engagements at the eastern front between the Austro-Hungarian and the Russian armies at the end of summer 1914, civilians were forced to leave their homes. The inhabitants of the provinces Galicia and Bukovina left for different countries of the then monarchy, to Carniola as well. A large number of refugees from Eastern Galicia were of Ukrainian or Ruthenian nationality. By religion, they were predominantly Uniates. The refugees were lodged in different places in Carniola. Some found shelter in Godovič. The then parish priest Janez Jelenc described their stay in the parish chronicle.
