Among the bridges of Ljubljana there are two distinguished bridges, first, a technically progressive solution of the old Shoemakers’ Bridge (Čevljarski most), and secondly, an architecturaly refined construction of the Dragon’s Bridge (Zmajski most). The first bridge was projected already in 1867 by Johann Hermann, an architect from Vienna, as a tripartite disjunctive construction from ready made elements, cast by the foundry Dvor near Žužemberk. The second bridge was the first to open the reinforced concrete building in Slovenia. It was decorated by Jurij Zaninovich, Otton Wagner’s pupil. The framework construction with two knuckles at the St. Jacob’s (Šentjakobski) bridge is also worth noting. The building of bridges was to a large degree increased by the drainage of the Ljubljana swamps, which the town council and the provincial government had been endeavouring it for four hundred years.
