The author describes a coat of arms plate (made of stone) immured in the farm building at Kozarje near Ljubljana. The plate is said to be »the coat of arms of free farmers«. On the basis of the analysis of both coats of arms on the plate it can be established that it is the coat of arms of the bishop of Ljubljana, Hren, and that the plate dates from 1616. It was immured in memory of purchase of this farm for the bishipric. The former Marin’s farm was a »freeman’s« farm since the end of the 16th century and therefore this plate with its coat of arms was declared by the folk tradition as a coat of arms of free farmers.
