In the present article the author continues his description of money lending at a certain bank interest to the city of Piran in the 14th century (see tie article on Benzini, Kronika, 23, No. 3). The sons of Soldaneri de Soldanieri concluded a contract with authorities of Piran on 9 March 1337 concerning the lending of money to Piran for the five years period, according to which they were promised 25 °/o of bank interest when lending money on bank notes, and 20 % of bank interest when leading money on the Lombard manner. After five years the contract was not renewed because Piran had obtained in the meantime another offer by Benzini who asked for a smaller bank interest. Piran also borrowed several large sums (e. g. 12.940 libers) from Soldaneri at Udine and in Venice. A part of the borrowed money was used for the repayment of old debts, the rest was probably used for trade purposes. In the description of the struggle of the inhabitants of Piran for the repayment of »usurious interest« after Soldaneri’s death the author deals briefly with some medieval legal terms.
