Soon after 1945 the need has been shown for a historical publication on local history, similarly, as it used to be the case in the period between 1934—1940, when »Kronika slovenskih mest« (The Cronicle of Slovene Cities) was published. The efforts of the Historical Association of Slovenia, The People’s Committee of the City of Ljubljana, and of the City Archives of Ljubljana, resulted in a publication of a review for Slovene local history, »Kronika«, which began to be published in 1953. The review was given the task to foster the interest for history of individual large or small local areas of the Slovene national territory; besides, it should transmit the results of Slovene history to a broader reading public and in an easily understandable manner. Thus, it should also be profitably used for history classes at schools. 587 articles, which have so far been published, treat political, economic, and cultural history and archeology. The second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century are best represented. In 1973 the bibliography of all articles published in the first twenty years is given. Five other works, besides the review, have been published in the series »Knjižnica Kronike«.
