In the area of Slovenia road repair in the 18th century was done in three stages: the first belonging to the period from about 1720 on, the second from about 1760 on, and the third belonging to the last years of the stated century. The first stage included the repair of all compiercial roads as main roads, the second covered by-roads, and the third entirely local roads. The road from the river harbour at Zalog to the harbour at Breg in Ljubljana was considered a by-road until the beginning of the eighties of the 18th century; it was then graded as a commercial by-road and as such renewed more thoroughly than other by-roads. The engineer’s estimate was the following: length about 4740 cords, width 2,5 cords, and the expense came to 4243 florins or nearly 28 crowns to 1 square cord, which was the normal average for a level teritory such as is the distance from Zalog to Ljubljana.
