Description
For several decades in our history Slovene teachers were besides clergymen the only educated persons who had a direct influence on the masses, and who could in this way enlighten them as well as spread and reinforce their national conscience. This can well be seen in the example of the development of the primary school at Sodražica. This example indicates also how particular stages in the development of education in Slovenia affected the primary school at this place; special emphasis is laid on the activity of the teachers in this school, with the description of their activities other than those at school. Attention is paid also to the construction of the school building which was destroyed in the National Liberation Struggle.
