The former Country Theatre building in Ljubljana holds a reputable place among other monuments of the so-called late historicism in Slovenia. It was constructed in the years 1890-91 according to the plans of the country engineer Jan V. Hrasky and the architect Anton Hruby. According to its style, it is included in the architecture of the specialized project company Fellner and Helmer which built theatres almost all over Europe and which gave advice also for the Ljubljana theatre. Inspite of the desire of the country commitee that native artists should decorate the building, only the sculptor A. Gana and the painter H. Wettach were engaged; all other plastic decoration — and its quality cannot be denied — was done by foreign specialized decoration ateliers.
