After the first systematical renovation of roads in Carinthia from 1713 on all roadwork had been given into tenancy which lasted 16 years (1747— 1763). The tenant performed his job satisfactorily, and that not in the form of a private building establishment but in the form of a direction, or a kind of provincial office for roadwork. Till around 1724 serfs predominated as labour force; later on, redemption from serfdom based an o calculated contribution began to be introduced — already in 1735 it absolutely predominated. On renovated roads busy traffic developed that was from around 1750 on commanded by transport establishments the owners of which derived mostly from the Karst area (Logatec, Planina, Postojna) and from the Ljubljana town.
