Description
The author reaches in his contribution temporarly back to the year 1800. He describes one of the oldest secondary schools in Slovenia in the time, when after dissolving of the order of the Jesuits, it was overtaken by the state and when it, under the pressure of the state autorities, as far as contents is concerned, adjusted to the needs of the time. This is also the time when the first secular teachers appear in this school, when in this otherwise Latin School more and more assert also the real subjects, when besides the Latin language also the German is introduced as language of instruction. It is also the time when this secondary school settled in the famous lyceum on the today’s Vodnikov trg, where it stayed untili the strong earthquake at the end of the 19th century
