In the period, after 1848 the school system presented a decisive influence on the entire development of our country, including Ljubljana and its neighbouring surroundings, moreover, it specially influenced the national development of the country. In the present study the author enters into the main features of development of the Ljubljana elementary, secondary and special schools up to 1941; he also quotes the most important literature that has so far been written on the topic; he also calls the reader’s attention to the problems that will have to be presented in a new light or researches that have already been done but will have to be supplemented.
