During the 15th century Reka grew into the more and more important centre of the trade from the Slovene regions towards the sea and over the sea to Italy. At the same time, however, Reka was interesting for the numerous merchants from the Italian regions, especially from the so called Marks. According to the author the greatest part of the trade on long distances went on as follows: the merchants from the hinterland (most of all from the Slovene places and regions) transacted the goods to Reka, where the merchants from the Italian regions and towns were buying it. The author describes in detail the mercantile business in Reka in the 15th century and states that the forms and tehnique of the business were on the same level as in other neighbouring towns along the Adriatic sea.
