According to the general interest of the Slovene ethnologists in the way of life of the town population Ljubljana has so far been in the centre of attention. In the last two decades two complex monographic works concerning two suburban areas of Ljubljana, namely Zelena jama and Galje- vica, have been published. The social life in Ljubljana from the beginning of the 20th century until the World War II has been discussed. An introduction to the ethnological researches of the Ljubljana of the recent time has been written. The Department of Ethnology of the Faculty of Philosophy at the Edvard Kardelj University in Ljubljana which is the centre of such efforts keeps a number of students’ papers dedicated to different themes concerning the ethnology of Ljubljana. Furthermore, the revealing of the ethnological features of Ljubljana represents an integral part in the complex of research activities concerning the whole Slovene ethnic territory.
