Description
The article that is written on the basis of the archival sources discusses the foundation, development and activity of the labour societies in Ljubljana, both the political and professional ones. The emphasis is on the workers’ educational society which had been the most important political labour society from its foundation in 1870 to its voluntary dissolution in 1892. The author presents in detail the activities of its most prominent leaders Matija Kunc, France Železnikar, Ferdinand Tuma and Karl Korde] ič as well as the rise and the expansion of the labour movement in Ljubljana which is closely related to the activity of the above mentioned society.
