The article presents a general short survey of the defense organization against the Turks in the 16th century. It especially points to the signalizing and informative systems and the subjects’ duties in the so-called district of Kranj to which belonged also Ribnica. The preserved list of domestic mercenary soldiers from the year 1561, of whom twenty-six came from the dominion of Ribnica, enables a fuller presentation of the danger of Turkish invasion of Carniola in that year as well as of the military role of domestic mercenary soldiers. The author also concludes that in 1561 there was no Turkish invasion that would reach, according to the presently accepted belief, up to Ribnica and even higher.
