The author briefly sketches the colonization of this part of Dolenjsko, the meaning of toponym, the oldest history of the region called Ribnica ever since 1220, and carries on a controversy about an assumption based on a rhymed genealogy of the Turjak nobility from 1584, namely that Ribnica was mentioned as early as 1082 or 1083. On the basis of documents from the 14th and 15th centuries he presents the most important data concerning Ribnica, named borough for the first time in 1350, about the school etc., until 1418 the Oglej fief of the Ortenburgs, and then until 1456 the fief of the counts of Celje and finally of the Hapsburghs. At the end the author lists the oldest mentions in the documents, the meaning of toponyms and some important data concerning the places of the present-day commune of Ribnica in the Middle Ages.
