Ljubljana was an important railway and postal crossroad and a junction of migration movements from the Slovene territory and its broader hinterland (Central Europe and the Balkans) particularly in the period of mass emigration to the U.S.A. at the break to the 20th century. In it emigration offices were in operation, which represented various shipping companies and foreign emigrant agencies. The advertising activity of local and foreign agencies, emigrant letters, newspapers and similar were completing informativeness on the then economic circumstances in the immigrant states, and on possibilities for travelling abroad. Slovene language was taken into consideration in the publicity activities of foreign agencies.
