The paper presents, mainly on the standard-setting level, the realization of the economic programme of the Slovene People’s Party in the Carniolan Diet in the years 1908—1914, when the Party was in majority. The Liberal wiews which the majority of the Diet advocated as to the development of the agriculture, the improvement of traffic conditions as well as the water and electricity supply, helped to raise the country economically, yet at the same time it also caused the opposition of the political opponents and even a part of the Party’s own followers. As the financial sources of the country did not suffice for the extensive activities and investments the economy of the country found itself in deep financial crisis, out of which it tried to save itself by way of contracting new debts and increasing the taxes.
