Description
Bled is one of the early tourist resorts in Slovenia It owes its international fame to a Swiss named Arnold Rikli, vho established a healing spa on the spot already in the fifties of the nineteennth century and introduced special methods of healing about which he also wrote a great deal. From 1870 on more and more guests from the Monarchy are coming not only for health but mostly to enjoy their holidays in the beautiful surroundings. In the period between the two world wars Bled developed a great deal, only the tourist population changed a great deal. Various diplomatic meetings, which became fairly frequent, also contributed a good deal to the reputation and fame of the place. Apart from hotels and boarding-houses, rooms were also available in private houses; winter tourism began to develop, the health resort commission was active, but the outbreak of the World War II checked the development very much.
