The treatise gives some aspects of emigration from the Upper Carniola up to World War I, more illustratively than analitically as archival and other documentation on this matter is not satisfactory preserved and not yet wholy collected. The author gives a survey of the results of establishing the number of emigrants from Upper Carniola on basis of literature and archival documents. From both regional gazettes »Gorenjec« (1900—) and »Sava« (1911—) a survey is made: on decrease of population, illegal escape to America, invitations, warnings, and the use of emigration in political plots. The author follows the vision of America, presented in both gazettes. He brifely surveys the Upper Carniolans mentioned in Trunk’s book »America and Americans«, Celovec 1912. In the last part he gives a dealited analysis of emigration from Škofja Loka: reasons, directions, professions of emigrants; a detailed list of emigrants is also included. Conclusion: Upper Carniola was not at the top of emigration process but knew all it’s forms.
