Description
The author maintains that the road network of the 17th century was still to a much greater extent intended for freight than for passenger traffic, which became preponderant only after the renovation of the roads Graz—Ljubljana and Dravograd—Varaždin in the 18th century. During the 17th century road laying-outs were still in use, but they were already out of date by the ensuing century. All these changes were caused by the increasing transit traffic that required a more unified legal and technical regime. A modern development of road network was possible solely after all these conditions had been fulfilled.
