In the period from 1909 to 1911 in North America a network of 33 branches, independent of the Slovene St. Cyril and Methodius Society, was formed among the Slovene immigrants. The main purpose of these branches was to collect financial contributions for the Slovene Society ; besides, they strengthened the union among our immigrants and their nationality, and they maintained their connections with the mother country. Especially active among them were the branches in New York and in Cleveland. An important role in the activities of these branches was played by the newspapers: the New York Glas Naroda and the Ljubljana Slovenski Branik. The latter regularly published — in addition to the other , news concerning the activities of the St. Cyril and Methodius Society — the data about the activity of the North American branches and. of the individuals among the Slovene immigrants keen to help the Society. According to the data of the Society’s leadership the American Slovenes collected in the period 1907—1916 13.705,60 K of financial contributions, and sent them to the St. Cyril and Methodius Society.
