The central statement of the treatise is that the influence of the South Railway on the lay-out of the Slovene landscape and towns in the second half of the 19th century can be observed in the following: — on the regional level, the railway accelerated the changes in the location patterns of industry, and, indirectly, in the hierarchy of our towns — on the local level, the greatest changes occurred in the town quarters by the railway stations, where the need for a new type of regulating interventions appeared, which at the same time signified the origins of the modern Slovene town-planning.
