Description
Baron Žiga Zois became a member of the Napoleonic order of the “Légion d’honneur” in 1813 though he had never really been a Francophile. His attitude towards the French rulers was more or less that of a tactical adaptability showing his sense for “Realpolitik’’. The bestowal of the Legion itself to Zois served the purposes of the French politics after the great defeat in Russia, when the Illyrian population’s dissatisfaction with the French began to grow.
