Baron Žiga Zois became a member of the Napoleonic order of the “Légion d’honneur” in 1813 though he had never really been a Francophile. The bestowal of the Legion itself to Zois served the purposes of the French politics after the great defeat in Russia, when the Illyrian population’s dissatisfaction with the French began to grow.
